What is Creme de Cacao – Answers Here!
So I see recipes everywhere that call for this Creme de Cacao. What is it? Well I have the answer for you in simple form and also a little more detailed.
Simple form: It’s a chocolate liqueur.
Details: So if you demand more answers than that I will give them to you.
Creme de Cacao is a chocolate liqueur that comes in light and dark forms. The flavor comes from the Cacao bean, giving the liqueur its distinct chocolate flavor. Typical Creme de Cacao is anywhere from 40-50 proof and it reminds me a hell of a lot of a spiked Herseys Chocolate Syrup.
Creme de Cacao is similar to other chocolate liqueurs like Godiva, but it is not usually as sweet or as thick as the Godiva Liqueur you may get. Also it’s worth noting that, despite color differences, there really aren’t any differences in taste between the light and dark Creme de Cacao. It is similar to Curacao in the fact that the coloring is simply all show.
