Long Island Iced Tea – A True Classic Mixed Drink
The Long Island Iced Tea is a drink that dates back to the 70s. The story goes like this: Back in 1972 Robert Butt claims to have invented the drink and entered it into a contest that required a drink using Triple Sec. Although there are disputes on the origin of this drink most people would not dispute the fact that this drink kicks ass.
So here’s what you need for the drink:
- 1/2 oz Tequila
- 1/2 oz Triple Sec
- 1/2 oz White Rum
- 1/2 oz Gin
- 1/2 oz Vodka
- 3 oz Sour Mix
Now I’ve seen this recipe written many different ways. Chances are if it contains lemon juice and simple syrup it’s basically the same thing because my home made sour mix is basically lemon juice and simple syrup. So here’s how to build the drink.
- Pour liquors into a highball glass filled with ice.
- Add sour mix to the glass.
- Pour a splash of cola on top.
- Stir gently and garnish with a lemon wheel.
You will surely find a variety of different ways to make this drink. Some may or may not include tequila. Some say its a waste of money because the Tequila doesn’t add anything to the drink. I say try it out either way and just make it the way you want. Enjoy.
